There has to come some time when you have millions of impressionable Instagram followers that you consider potential damage you might do to strangers. Most of those followers are young women and most have no clue you’re putting shit out there to make yourself money. They should, but they don’t. This is why 8th grade assemblies don’t feature speakers who even joke about everybody trying crack at least once in their life.
You can ignore Ashley Graham carving out the one sweet spot among bikini models who can eat sweets legitimately as part of their job. There are a thousand chicks in bikinis being paid today somewhere in the world. Only one fat one. Ashley Graham owns some right to be proud of her niche building.
Where Graham crosses the line into harmful bullshit dispenser is in her insistence that overweight shouldn’t merely be protected from ridicule, but that it’s kind of where you want to be. Half the women in this country are heavy. Owning their swimsuit needs in the marketplace is good business. Encouraging them to remain overweight is sort of insidious. This isn’t about being big boned or never being able to look like Candice Swanepoel no matter how hard you try. This is about asking your doctor, hey, buddy, all body shaming political correctness bullshit aside, ideally, what should I weigh?
If Ashley Graham cared about you, she’d be inspiring you toward that number. Sure as shit it would put her out of work. For the very same reason dentists chide you on brushing and flossing multiple times a day, but they count on you not following directions. All those online fitness chicks are merely trying to turn a buck themselves, but at least their purported end goal for you is healthy.
Accepting the things you actually can control isn’t in any self-help steps of merit. If the money was right, Graham would hit Barry’s Bootcamp and carrot sticks and drop thirty in four months. Everybody needs to chip in to make Obamacare work. This shit isn’t going to solve itself.
