Paris Hilton is expected to do her first interview after being released from jail tomorrow night with Larry King on CNN. The seemingly odd choice is almost by default after many other media outlets caved to public pressure to not give any more publicity to Hilton. Last week NBC pulled a one million dollar offer to have Paris sit down with the Today show this morning after a very vocal public backlash. And now Barbara Walters, who was more than happy to "report" on a phone conversation she had with Paris from jail, says she is above interviews like this. Us magazine says:
Walters, 77, tells the New York Post’s Cindy Adams that, though she had already prepared to interview Hilton, her conscience drove her to change her mind at the last minute."Look, I've done prison interviews before, but people like the Menendez Brothers were really important news stories," said the creator and cohost of The View. "This wasn't. And even though I'd already written my questions, when all that pay-for-play stuff happened, I suddenly felt this was not up to my standard. It … felt … sort of … tawdry.”“The whole thing somehow was beneath me," she added.
What a huge loss for all of us who wanted to get to the bottom of what Paris' favorite color might be. Barbara Walters is a 900 year old kiss-ass who would crumble into dust if you poked her. The interview would have been her calling electricity "white fire" and asking Paris if black people should be allowed to vote.
