Philip Seymour Hoffman is pale and fat and in ‘the Talented Mr. Ripley’, he played and international playboy banging his way across Europe. And I believed every second of it. My point being, he’s great, but not even he can deliver the lazy dialogue he’s been handcuffed with in this trailer. “I’m going to kill you right in front of her”? Are you god-damn serious. That’s the best you could come up with? You could have said the same thing basically, but Christ, punch it up a little, “I’m gonna gut you from your neck to your knees”, maybe, something, anything a tad more visual. And Jesus, Tom you want to say something, shake your head, blink? No? Oh great, thanks for coming in today Tom. They even managed to dull down one of the cooler theme songs ever. Who played it, the Wiggles? The only good part of this entire thing is the explosion where Ethan Hunt is knocked into a car, at least until you start to question the physics behind an explosion behind him kicking him 90 degrees to the left. And why a phoenix flies overhead after that, I have no idea.
If you still want too, and you don’t mind giving away two minutes of your life, you can see the trailer for MI 3 here.
In related news that’s actually cool, Hoffman is now on the very short list to play the Penguin in the sequel to ‘Batman Begins’.
