The Secret Confuses England

The Secret is an ITV miniseries killing it on British television. The story is sourced on the early 90’s murders of a couple of super horny married people who killed their spouses so they could be with each other. Filling out divorce papers just seemed tedious.

Most of the English audience didn’t seem to give a shit that the real life story was pretty fucking painful to the families of the deceased. That is until one of the chicks in the series showed off her tits during a scene where the murderous duo get it on Manson family style. Suddenly everybody sympathized with the victims’ families. The Brits are even more uncomfortable with sex than Americans. ITV issued a meaningless excuse:

“We believe we have conducted the making and broadcast of this series responsibly, in seeking to minimise distress to family members, in so far as we were able to do so, given the subject matter.”

Meaning, we made a movie about murder and sex so we’re definitely including that. The rest is negotiable. There’s a comment to be made about how violence is so readily accepted in entertainment fare but nipples drive everybody to the church to rend their garments. Make love not war never really caught on. Except for the couple depicted in The Secret who figured out a way to do both.
