Mark Ruffalo Draws Trans Ire

September 12, 2016 | celebrity | matt-ralston | 0 Comments

Mark Ruffalo walks around asking people to pardon his unsightly penis so it’s not a good sign when he’s being lynched by the PC crowd. Ruffalo is producing a nondescript film which features a trans character, with the outrage stemming from the fact that a non-trans, although openly gay, person was cast to play the role. There’s a small issue here, once you go trans you can’t really go back. Making a film is difficult. It’s much harder to reverse a ton of weird facial reconstructive surgery so you can play your younger self than it is to put a wig on a guy.

Regardless, this business of needing to cast someone whose demographic exactly matches the character is insane. White guys haven’t played Indians in quite a while. If Jet Lee wants to play a Cambodian we should probably all shrug. Nobody cares when gay actors play straight or vice versa. Apparently the trans folk deserve special privilege.

Trans actress Jen Richards, who has a YouTube series about trans dating, was allowed to audition for the part out of obligatory conciliation to make it look like they were trying. According to her she marched into the production office and told everyone exactly how to run their business:

“I auditioned for this. I told them they shouldn’t have a cis man play a trans woman. They didn’t care.”

No shit they didn’t care. Since when do producers give a shit about what dumb actors think? Not that you had a chance but that’s a good way to insure you don’t get the part. To be fair, Richards is probably lying and lacks the balls to behave this way. Or perhaps she’s just a narcissistic twit. Whatever. Ruffalo had to apologize for caring about his art and has apologized profusely while secretly realizing he hates all the people at his dinner party. It might be impossible to win for a cis dude in 2016. Everyone wants to be a star now.
