In case you haven’t heard, the US will soon be presented with the enticing opportunity to take in a ragtag team of diseased poor migrants from countries most recognizable on the tags of Old Navy shirts. The “caravan” of over 1,000 Central American migrants is making its way through Mexico, and the marchers plan to “turn themselves in and request asylum once they make it to the US border” according to CNN. What a great deal for us. Really bringing something exciting to the table.
On the one hand, living in squalor can’t be as fun as it looks in Coco. On the other hand, you have to make me want it, you know? Make me want to help you. The caravan is putting Mexico – which has ramped up the protection of its Southern border wall and since 2014 has “detained and deported more than 420,000 Central American migrants” – in a tough spot. Not to mention giving Trump some compelling Twitter ammo. So caravans of Central Americans – hot or not?
I’m traveling with a caravan of about 1,200 mostly Central American migrants traveling through Mexico. The group is being organized by Pueblos Sin Fronteras. It’s shaping up to be the largest one they’ve ever had. Here’s a clip from yesterday. pic.twitter.com/9hQt6fb3Wv
