After five years in a career limbo created entirely by herself, Kesha is returning with a new album on Sony, called Rainbow. Sign up now. They might run out.
Kesha’s first released single is “Praying”. Not a horrible song produced by Ryan Lewis of Lewis and Macklemore renown. The man knows how to compose a hit single. As did Dr. Luke, who turned Kesha into a star. After a million failed legal attempts to break from Sony and Dr. Luke, the new album is being released under Luke’s Kemosabe record imprint. And Dr. Luke’s defamation suit against Kesha continues.
There’s no explanation for Kesha’s absence other than martyrdom. As heavily expressed in this Praying single. It’s an eye opener as to how Kesha likely views the world. She’s sad, depressed, God is out to get her, not to mention the patriarchy which put her in this bind.
Kesha shared her feelings on Lena Dunham’s blog where a woman can literally say anything completely unchallenged and receive a standing ovation:
“It’s from our darkest moments that we gain the most strength. There were so many days, months even, when I didn’t want to get out of bed….I was never at peace, night or day. But I dragged myself out of bed and took my emotions to the studio and made art out of them.”
Now you know how badly it feels when culturally timely, but ultimately false allegations fail in court. About forty pounds badly. Plus, you need to open with a suicidal ballad.
If you make it to the chorus, there is a happy ending. Kesha’s stronger for having broken from the man who refused to simply agree that he raped her. She’s finally found herself. A victim. You’ve reached the end of the game of Female Celebrity Life.
