Rooney Mara regrets being a caucasian playing Tiger Lily in the most recent film version of Peter Pan. J.M. Barrie clearly delineated the character as an iconically cliche and stereotyped war whooping Injun. You don’t just whitewash that kind of multiculturalism. Mara could’ve just regretted being any part of the massive box office disaster. Bitching about the bland food on the Titanic seems petty. Mara is one of the many white acting victims of circular logic loops that cause her to take roles so that she has a public platform to regret how minorities don’t get roles.
Do I think all of the four main people in the film should have been white with blonde hair and blue eyes? No. I think there should have been some diversity somewhere.
Maybe start with your paying gig? There are only so many shitty Peter Pan movies to be made in any given year. Take the paycheck then moan about how a British fairytale is cast with British looking people. Who led the Klan meetings on the set and did you speak up? Hugh Jackman could’ve been replaced by Idris Elba. We get it. The Idris Elba conundrum. Not so much about multi-racial casting as how Hugh Jackman imagines Elba while having sex with his wife. Political correctness is tough to navigate while still getting paid filthy for ten weeks of work.
