Stella Maxwell Defends Victoria’s Secret Angels Against Body Shamers

According to a four-second Google search for “brave quotes,” “Bravery can only come from having something to be brave about.” And never has this poignant Pinterest sentiment applied to anyone more so than supermodel Stella Maxwell. The Victoria’s Secret Angel is finally speaking out on behalf of the most marginalized group currently living on planet Earth – gorgeous, 6′ tall, 11o pound, 20-something models.

The group has apparently been bombarded with hate from critics unable to see the beauty and uniqueness in these disgusting freaks. But not anymore. Not on Stella’s watch. In response to those who criticize the lean appearance of the models and overall exclusivity of the Victoria’s Secret Mall Lingerie Show, Maxwell stated to Glamour UK:

I think every girl has worked really hard and I think you can see that even just through our Instagrams. We show all the exercise we are doing – and the mental health, too. Exercise is great for your mental health! The show is about being really comfortable in your body and it’s about embracing your body. All the hard work we have been doing over months comes to a point where you go, ‘Yes, this is it, this is what I have been working so hard for!’ I think that’s mainly what it is about: it’s about hard work!

Exercise is fun! And we’re definitely not bulimic. Models are allowed to be beautiful. In fact while a company cannot hire on the basis of race, sexual orientation, gender, etc., it can hire on the basis of beauty. Attractiveness is not yet a protected class. And as we’ve already gotten a glimpse into what the Victoria’s Secret Mall Lingerie Show would look like (a clomping, shitting, farting Armenian centaur stampede) without the current lineup of sassy sticks with tits, I’m okay with that. That’s right. I’m just as brave as Stella Maxwell. She also shares the empowering message about stringing cheap 2000’s underwear on a grab bag of walking eating disorders. Or in the actual words of Glamour UK, “why walking the Victoria’s Secret runway in her underwear is an empowering feminist statement”:

The message I want to send out is that women are sexy. We have girls from all over the world in the show – it’s just a very sexy and confident role and situation you are lucky to be in. I personally really enjoy it and really enjoy the moment of the runway show. I think it’s all about feeling good AND looking amazing.
