Well if that title doesn’t cheer Willow Smith up then nothing will. Last time we wrote about a faux suicidal attention whore at least one of you got bent out of shape and told me I was a shitty writer. To which I say – A) Yeah. This isn’t Spotlight bitch. Not really skimming off the top of the talent pool over here for a salary that one could make selling candy bars on the subway. And B) It gets better. Never give up on accepting your true self tdog0360.
Anyway Willow Smith seemed to have missed the emo MySpace bandwagon by about a decade and a half, because while dancing for her mom Jada Pinkett Smith on Jada’s show Red Table Talk, Willow admitted to cutting her arm deep enough to sort of leave a mark. You have to look closely, but it’s like, there. Post her quotes next to an embed of a Dashboard Confessional music video and a Hot Topics wishlist and she would have been the belle of the MySpace ball. She talks about her time following the success of 2010’s Whip My Hair:
After the tour and the promotion and all of that, they wanted me to finish my album. And I was like, I’m not gonna do that. And after all of that kinda settled down and it was like a kind of lull, I was just listening to a lot of dark music. It was just so crazy and I was plunged into this black hole, and I was cutting myself.
Her mom, giddy that her show isn’t the most boring thing in the world for once, asked:
What? When were you cutting yourself? I didn’t see that part. Cutting yourself where?
Really getting to the important questions Jada. All the finesse of a doctor with poor bedside manners. Willow continues:
On my wrist. I mean, you can’t even see it but there’s still a little something there. But like, totally lost my sanity for a moment there. I never talk about it because it was such a short weird point in my life. But you have to pull yourself out of it.
Willow’s story is honestly different than Stranger Face’s, because Willow, like so many child stars before her, was prodded into the spotlight at the age of ten. If most adults can’t successfully steer clear of the pitfalls of stardom, we can’t really expect someone who’s been on this Earth for ten years to do any better. Jada put her daughter in an emotionally tumultuous situation and is now reaping the benefits from any damage done. Throw in a bunch of kids out of wedlock and dozens of botched plastic surgeries and voila, it’s Kris Jenner.
