Sometimes celebrities really believe that they’re superheroes. It’s all up to them to save the day just because millions of mostly unimportant people have decided that this one person is more special than the rest of us. Yes there are some instances where personal talent does give legitimacy to a person being worthy of praise. But just because you’re talented at saving a fictional world full of CGI and imaginary problems doesn’t mean you’re the most qualified to save the real world. Jennifer Lawrence is committing herself to an entire year away from the big screen to fight corruption with the help of a non-profit organization. Hopefully Katniss isn’t charged with murder after driving arrows through the hearts of shady politicians using bribe money to buy hookers and cocaine. She’d probably clear out half of the country and run out of arrows before the year is up.
Lawrence made her “announcement” she was taking some time off from showbiz — a statement she’s made a few times before — during an interview with ET. “I’m going to take the next year off,” she told the outlet while discussing her new film “Red Sparrow.” “I’m going to be working with this organization as a part of Represent.Us … trying to get young people engaged politically on a local level.” “It doesn’t have anything to do with partisan [politics],” she added. “It’s just anti-corruption and stuff trying to pass state-by-state laws that can help prevent corruption, fix our democracy.”
I can’t complain when her hiatus happens to be for a good cause. She refuses to shut up and Starbucks about local politics the same way Lebron James refuses to shut up and dribble. She’s made more money than most women her age ever see. I can almost guarantee after Mother! being her first flop and Red Sparrow already looking to be her second, the public will want to take a break from her too. I blame Darren Aronofsky for derailing Jennifer’s streak of success. Hopefully he’s classified as corrupt by her non-profit justice league organization and Lawrence gets the green light to kick her ex-boyfriend’s ass in the name of all things good.
