Count on a man invited into the middle of a franchise series to run away with a spin-off. The compliment “stealing the show” shouldn’t encourage an actor to actually do it. But tell that to Dwayne Johnson. Tyrese Gibson may be the only one crazy enough to call him out through the safety of online commenting. Fast and Furious has the right amount of everything to appeal to such a wide audience. Action, ass, exotic locations with fast expensive automobiles was all that was needed to rake in money by the millions. And also inspire idiots to turn their parent’s Honda Civics into really loud rice rockets. Tyrese basically told “The Rock” he better have his priorities in order when it comes to putting the ninth iteration of the Fast franchise that no one needed first.
In a since-deleted ’gram, Gibson begged his co-star to put Fast 9 before the rumored spinoff film centered around Johnson’s character, Luke Hobbs. “I want you to shoot it just not right now cause the #Fast9 release date has already been announced,” Gibson argued. Adding, “Didn’t you see how HUGE #Fast8 was?? It’s because we announced and KEPT our release date bro.”
Spin-offs need to stop. They’re in the same family of money milking movie ideas as reboots. RIP to idea of originality. No, I don’t want to dive deeper into the nuances of another person that I’m semi-familiar with for the unnecessary, yet avoidable, waste of time and money. That’s what first marriages are for. And I divorced this franchise after Paul Walker died. His sacrifice and curiosity from fans regarding how well the CGI would look netted Furious Seven a soul-selling amount of money. Paul paid the price with his life. Do you really think that Wiz Khalifa- See You Again song would have been that big of a hit if that passenger side of that Porsche didn’t hit a pole? The idea of a spin-off two movies after would have him spinning in his grave. Surely didn’t smell Dwayne cooking this dumb idea up. The world doesn’t need a super cop spin-off movie with the main antagonist as Jason Statham. Just watch 20 minutes of Crank 2 and you’ll understand why he got canned for consideration in lead role for Transporter Refueled.
