In 2017 absolutely nothing makes sense. Martin Shkreli looks like the type to be run over in a Barstool Sports golf cart gone wrong video. When he’s not hiking up the price of pills for people who have HIV/AIDS he enjoys getting his hands dirty in the slums of Shaolin. Not in search of mail order brides looking for a way out of Asia and into America but rare unreleased rap CDs from the Wu-Tang Clan. Now that he owns the alleged only copy of a rare Wu-Tang CD, he’s trying to unload his treasured one of one album to the highest bidder on eBay.
Martin Shkreli appears to have listed the sole existing copy of Wu-Tang Clan album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin on eBay. The former CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, who was last month convicted on two counts of securities fraud, was revealed as the winner of an auction for the CD in 2015, with a winning bid of $2 million. On 5 September he put the album back up for auction on eBay for $1 – the current bid at the time of writing was $1,000,100.
I can’t be the anomaly when it comes to being the only one who doesn’t understand what’s going on here. If Martin believes that he genuinely holds the only copy of that CD he’s sadly mistaken. That “rare” CD you purchased for an obscene amount of money is the equivalent of an overpriced original Xbox Halo 2 collectors edition copy. The device used to enjoy the disc is out of date. Xbox and CD player. You were scammed and if karma exists this is it. Do you really believe rappers raised buying illegally burned bootleg CDs didn’t make a copy themselves? Of their own album? The bidding for the album is up to 1 million currently but anyone with an eBay account understands that a payment still has to clear first after an auction is won. I don’t smell victory in Shkreli’s future.
