Megyn Kelly is making a name for herself as the spunky morning talk show host who gathers up her Jones New York dresses, squats down, and takes massive steaming Megyn Kelly dumps on her guests. The former Fox News correspondent and perpetual owner of a psychopathic murderer smile currently hosts the last hour of NBC’s Today show – a program dedicated to fall’s must-have cookie recipes, gerbils that can do flips to show tunes, and white children rescued from wells.
Until now. Kelly treats her celebrity guests like three-headed trailer park pedophiles on Maury Povich, and, while I’m into the angle, the rest of the world isn’t seeing it as a plus. This morning Kelly chatted with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford about their old people movie, Our Souls at Night. Instead of offering Fonda a hard candy and letting her talk about her elderly nonsense, Kelly decided to address Fonda’s plastic surgery (1:30 min mark above,) prodding:
You, you’ve been an example to everyone, on how to age beautifully and with strength. And unapologetically. You admit you had work done. I think it’s to your credit. You look amazing. I read you felt you’re not proud to admit you had work done, why not?
To which Fonda indignantly replied:
We really want to talk about that now?
To which Kelly persisted:
Well, one of the things people think about when they look at you, is how amazing you look.
Something Kelly hasn’t had to grapple with. Yesterday, the cast of the Will & Grace sat down with Kelly to pimp their reboot. After inviting a gay fan on stage to meet the actors, Kelly said: “Is it true that you became a lawyer, and became gay, because of Will?” And wrapped a bow on the encounter with: “I think the Will & Grace thing and the gay thing is going to work out great!” You can stop pushing your agenda. We get it. You’re the prettiest lesbian in all the land.
Kelly was probably told at some point that as a woman looking to make it big in the biz, she would need to be feisty, tough as nails, and a journalist who isn’t afraid to “go there.” But being provocative and being the worst are two different things. Kelly better watch out. If she continues to be the most hated woman on television she’ll be back to coiffing Donald Trump’s ass hair in no time.
