Common sense suggests that we should turn to celebrities for all of our sociopolitical know-how. I mean, they’re in movies, duh. Jessica Chastain is an endless gushing well of wisdom in a new Twitter video, where she sends positive vibes to Hurricane Harvey survivors while talking about overthrowing the system. Just what people want to hear about while they’re fishing around for their drowned pets:
I’m making a video because my heart is very heavy. I’ve learned so much the past few days about the trauma many people are experiencing in our country. I’ve had the opportunity to listen, more than to speak, and it’s really hard for me to express my feelings, my thoughts, in 140 characters.
I wanted you guys to know that I hear you. I want you to know that I’m committed to creating transformative social change, that I’m committed to dismantling systems of oppression. I share in the sense of what is happening in the country. I hear you. You may never have met me, but I love you.
All the best social change starts with vague commitments in Twitter videos. I never know whether to commend celebrities who utilize social media for something besides shilling herbal tea laxatives or think of them as the downfall of humanity. All too often we put our faith in actors because they’re attractive, personable, and persuasive. But what happens when you’re none of those things? Looking at you Chastain. Maybe we need to get this girl a makeup endorsement deal to occupy her time. We’ll make sure it’s super woke. The wokest. Use code TRANSFORMATIVESOCIALCHANGE for 10% off your purchase.
