Usher was unable to make it to One Love Manchester this weekend due to his kid’s diabetes summer camp drop off. A kid with diabetes. The parent did something wrong. In lieu of prompting millennials in attendance at the benefit concert to scream “Watch out Ariana Grande, there’s a random black guy on stage” Usher took to Twitter to pledge his support for Grande and the victims of the Manchester attack:
So happy to see that last night’s concert in Manchester proved that love always prevails. I would have loved to be there but it was my son’s first day at Camp Kudzu, one of the few summer camps for kids living with diabetes. This was an important day for him and for myself as a proud father. Stay strong UK.
The plot thickened and got hilarious when people realized that Usher was never scheduled to appear at One Love Manchester. He reportedly was only going to record a message for the audience, which he neglected to do. Unable to take two minutes to send a message of hope to an uninterested audience. Someone loves diabetes and ISIS a little too much.
In these dark times, statements like TMZ’s “Usher wasn’t at the One Love Manchester concert for two very good reasons — his son needed him and, more to the point, he wasn’t ever scheduled to perform at the concert” are here to bring the much-needed yucks. Something to put smiles on the faces of recovering Manchester survivors. Who needs a visit from penicillin ambassador Ariana Grande when you have an uninvited aged rapper dropping off his kid at Camp Kudzu. Thanks Usher, you clown.
