Michelle Rodriguez has made herself a mini fortune portraying a tough chick in a wife beater in various movies where she has to snarl but look feminine enough to fuck the leading man. Trick of the trade onscreen. Offscreen she’s fucking the leading lady.
While promoting the aftermarket release of the eighth installment of The Fast & The Furious, Michelle Rodriguez made a thickly veiled reference to ditching the movie franchise if there isn’t more attention paid to female roles:
F8 is out digitally today, I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one. Or I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise. It’s been a good ride & Im grateful for the opportunity the fans & studio have provided over the years… One Love.
The nearly perfect quote. Contractually satisfactory promotion of the digital release. Vague and undefined suggestion of sexism in the film industry. And a threat to leave with only tens of millions in the bank and millions more in residuals locked up. Of course it’s also possible this entire sentiment is based on Rodriguez wanting new hot tail to devour on her next work assignment.
You might expect that a juvenile film franchise about street racing car stunts aimed at teen boys to be largely focused on male characters. In the same manner that TNT’s new Claws doesn’t seem to have any men. Even gay dudes won’t do nails. Fast and the Furious has provided numerous actresses a huge industry boost, not to mention nice paychecks for six weeks of pretending to be mechanics. Most notably Rodriguez herself who died on the series then came back to life. More paycheck.
Rodriguez is an admirable figure in Hollywood in many ways. She fucks a ton of men and women without making a huge deal about it. Including Zac Efron which is no easy mark for a lady. She parties hard on roving vagina trolling yachts. And she puts on that wife beater and shows up fit for her movie roles. There’s no need to casual dive into the mandatory feminist platitude waters. Fund a Girls Club skate park. It’ll do one hundred times the good of whatever you’re bitching about on Instagram. Think about all the moms who will thank you. Yes, in that way.
