At some point the executive team at Disney moved from being only mostly gay to being the Tom Brady of gay. That might be redundant. Their March Madness is a slow jams dance party of culturally attuned Disney and ABC releases. Maybe not your culture, but approximating a Brentwood elementary school during Megan Has Two Daddies Day. Social messaging has become more germane than even the almighty dollar. Attention shareholders. Yes, we know you’ve still got Marvel and Star Wars. Quit tittering.
Beauty and the Beast director Bill Condon is lamenting how so much is being made of Josh Gad’s LeFou character being repurposed into a G in LGBTQ. Revising classic literature to reflect more modern sexual identity politics will soon become the norm. When you see Tranny Tom Sawyer it’ll all make sense. More lonely nights for Becky. Condon’s lamentation conveniently ignores how he started it all by bragging to gay media outlets about that amazing thing he pulled with a Disney top tier property.
Russia is now leading the way in what will certainly be a regressive multi-nation state boycott of the film. ‘Ornate period piece musicals okay, gay not okay’ seems a bit hypocritical if you do the math. Condon is now pulling back and noting that LeFou is at most a man in a blouse who loves to break into song. That’s a Q at most, maybe Q leaning G.
Josh Gad who plays LeFou refuses to stop reiterating how proud he is to play Disney’s first gay character.
What was most important to me was taking a character that is wonderful and so iconic, but is defined by cartoon conceits in the (original) movie… and expanding on that, giving him dimension, making him human…. I’m honored to have that moment as part of my character’s arc.
Nothing’s more human than a hard-on for your same sex boss. What else do we know about him? Nothing? Perfect. He sounds complicated. Tell us again how this isn’t a cynical ploy.
Gad will say anything at any time to be accepted in Hollywood. He came out strong against animal cruelty he didn’t witness in A Dog’s Purpose. He’s a pleaser. He keeps booking gigs. Please don’t pretend super obvious isn’t working super well.
