Whatever you want think of race issues in America, there’s a serious problem with policing. Whether certain cops are specifically targeting blacks or just poor people with shitty legal representation who happen to be black is a matter of semantics. The goal is to get people into the system, schedule them for several appearances, deny their right to a trial, and fine the shit out of them.
Hence, rapper Young Thug was given a fix-it ticket for having his windows tinted too dark. For this he was required to show up in court and prove he’d wasted a bunch of his time and money having his windows lightened. Presumably, the cops don’t like not being able to see what you’re doing in your car so they can write more tickets for seatbelt violations and other bullshit.
Since the matter seems overwhelmingly trivial, Young Thug forgot to show up for court. Then he was shopping at a mall around Christmas, and a cop recognized him and remembered he hadn’t shown up for court and arrested him. Merry Christmas! Then he got out of jail and missed another court appearance, and has another warrant out for his arrest. Clearly he’s kind of flaky, but hard time seems a bit egregious for what was originally a window tinting violation.
This is thousands of dollars in paying the judge, cops, and clerks. Stacks of paperwork. And most importantly, a lot of backlogged fines being assessed to Young Thug. You could take the simpleton view and say why didn’t he just show up for court. Or you could think about why the supposedly most free country in the world has people show up to court to discuss the the hue of their car windows. What’s the tint on the presidential limo, out of curiosity?
Of course rappers who call themselves Young Thug are up to no good in their cars. But mostly it’s broke-ass scheming girls going down on them. Nobody needs to see that.
