The common through line of doleful celebrities lamenting the loss of Hillary Clinton is the intense focus of how the election results affected them personally. Less so how the Family First economic plan shall never be enacted. Whatever the hell that was.
Chelsea Handler walks among the brave. An ardent supporter of Clinton for reasons she could never explain other than to bash Donald Trump, Handler shared with People magazine her own hero’s journey back to normalcy:
Twenty times a day I’m like, How is this a reality? How did this happen?”
I walked into work that day. I just thought, ‘I do have a house in Spain. I can go wherever the hell I want! I don’t ever have to work again.’
Handler might’ve joined the long line of devastated entertainers lining up at Ellis Island for the outbounds but that’s when her staff stepped in and reminded her of her war-time Lincoln like responsibilities:
No, we need you to do a show today. We need you.
Everybody who promised to leave seems to have a similar staff. Handler finished up by agreeing that she’s very popular and famous. She has a show where she can help people understand the fresh horror upon us. She’s choosing to stay and fight. You could almost hear the cries from Spain for a vacationing talent they shall never have.
You never know how tall you’ll stand until you stand up in the face of tragedy. Fucking eh, Handler. You’ve raised the bar.
