Way to Fuck Your Movie, Michael Shannon

Sean Penn is likely tatting foot wide swaths of his back into Trump as Hitler crushing Che Guevara beneath his large boot while Che hands out daisies to street urchins. One thing Sean Penn won’t do is show off that tattoo while promoting a movie somebody else paid a ton of money for and dozens of people spent a year of their life working on. That’s the different between professional asshole and rogue asshole. While promoting Nocturnal Animals, due out in a few weeks, actor Michael Shannon reviewed the Presidential election results by declaring that only old people voted for Trump and it’s time for them all to die.

There’s a lot of old people who need to realize they’ve had a nice life, and it’s time for them to move on. Because they’re the ones who go out and vote for these assholes. If you look at the young people, between 18 and 25, if it was up to them, Hillary would have been president. No offense to the seniors out there. My mom’s a senior citizen. But if you’re voting for Trump, it’s time for the urn.

Suggesting college aged kids have all the answers isn’t even worth discussing as logical point. Shannon previously called out Trump voters as being Red State fucking morons. It’s not that he is the only guy to think this way in Hollywood. Or that Trump fans don’t conversely think Hillary Clinton is an insufferable lying sack of shit. But who would declare this aloud while promoting a completely unrelated product for public sale?

Nocturnal Animals is the latest pretentious stylistic fodder from fashion designer turned director, Tom Ford. This particular film’s box office won’t be affected one way or another with condescending rhetoric about working class white people. But Shannon himself now becomes a liability. For all the progressive commitment of the entertainment industry, money remains the highest god. Shannon’s a good actor. It’s a shame these trained monkeys simply can’t bear to keep their mouths shut and take their fat paychecks for playing pretend. Sean Penn levels of self-control isn’t a high bar. Fail.
