If you remember watching The Social Network, Zuckerberg was the Harvard nerd who stole his friend’s algorithm and the app idea of some WASPy twins on campus and promptly invented TheFacebook. Peter Thiel was the Aspy not yet Gawker outed gay but already successful right wing venture capitalist who funded the big expansion into what is now known as Facebook. Thiel has maintained a seat on the Facebook board while also funding up Paypal and various other ventures including his latest company that is profiling every single American and selling the information to the NSA because Thiel goes where the money is.
Fury erupted in Silicon Valley when Thiel openly declared himself a Trump supporter. He’s literally the only tech bigwig to make such a public announcement. This past week he fired off a seven figure check to the Trump campaign to fund its futile efforts in the final month. That set the Valley on politically correct overload. There were demands both inside Facebook and from around town to toss Thiel off the board. Zuckerberg, who also makes a mint profiling every single American but selling the information to consumer marketing companies, called for level heads:
I want to quickly address the questions and concerns about Peter Thiel as a board member and Trump supporter. We can’t create a culture that says it cares about diversity and then excludes almost half the country because they back a political candidate. There are many reasons a person might support Trump that do not involve racism, sexism, xenophobia or accepting sexual assault. It may be because they believe strongly in smaller government, a different tax policy, healthcare system, religious issues, gun rights or any other issue where he disagrees with Hillary.
It would be easy to mock Zuckerberg’s fourth grade level rote explanation about how one might possibly support somebody not Hillary Clinton, but that’s precisely the intellectual level of the political discourse even among a community with one-hundred percent college graduation rates. Is it possible you could support Trump and not be a racist? Hard to say. Have you read Huffington Post, CNN, or the New York Times in the past year? The answer is no.
Zuckerberg is frightened only by women and a very practical autistic. Forty-percent of the population is hundreds of millions of Facebook users. While it’s fine for the righteous majority to clutch their faux pearls, he’s been taking steps to at least put up a fake effort to appease the right because they’re data is just as ripe for sale as Clinton supporters.
If you don’t think partisan politics plays a role in who gets hired, fired, promoted or shit upon in various high profile industries, namely tech and entertainment and media, you’re being naive.
