Lady Gaga is riding high on a positively reviewed new album, Joanne. Also, she lost weight so she can do the mostly naked thing in public again. She was formerly relying on the unsupported belief that fishnet deftly disguises chub. Gaga’s new album is named after her father’s sister who died from lupus well before Lady Gaga was born, but seems to have a grip on the family to this day:
I never understood why my father drank so much and why he was so angry and why he was so overprotective and why his eyes would just blister out of control when I showed a sign of independence or wanting to leave the house or be on my own.
The lupus, naturally. He got over it once Gaga earned her first million. There’s self-pity and then there’s practicality.
Gaga explained that Aunt Joanne’s photo was framed in the kitchen and they would talk about her nightly at dinner. She was their guardian spirit. Her father named his restaurant after his sister and recently both he and Gaga got “Joanne” tattoos in her own original signature. Gaga already has the date of her aunt’s passing tattooed on her body. To say Joanne’s death has had a lingering impact on dad and the family is something of an understatement. Or dad’s drinking. Dysfunctional families tend to focus on a single event for the sake of not having to explain the tons of unrelated shit that took place. Nobody lights their piano on fire while screaming about campus rape without a decent backstory.
