If you’re willing to accept the fact that tennis is a real sport, then you’re forced to listen to a female tennis player gripe about how she goy less special treatment than male tennis players for the stupid reason that male tennis is a bigger draw and revenue source. Because there are no other industries where the top earner get the bigger office.
Venus Williams is pissed because she was forced to dominate a small Greek chick on Court 18 at Wimbeldon. As sweet as the Wimbledon venus is, Court 19 is still akin to the last row in the airplane. It’s cramped and reeks of urine cakes and botulism. While number eight seed Williams was struggling to turn six figures in a skirt and plus-sized thigh wraps on a remote court, the number five seed was playing on Centre- Court which has the good snacks. How can the higher ranked player possibly get the better court?
In true Williams sisters passive-aggressive fashion, Venus Williams bitched about implied sexism and racism while never actually saying anything close:
I’m willing to play anywhere, any time. If all players have to play outside, all players should have to play outside. But there shouldn’t be exceptions or any inequality to it … We’d like to see equal amount of matches.
Notice the use of “we”. Who the fuck is we? Women? Black tennis players meaning you and your sister and nobody else in the world?
British tennis player Andy Murray who often plays his matches on the top court because he gets massive crowds responded quietly so Venus Williams wouldn’t beat him up:
Maybe some of the past men’s champions wouldn’t have played on Court 18. In general they do a pretty good job of trying to put the best matches for the fans. I guess they take that into consideration, as well, like what the best matches of the day are, rather than it just being the big names that play on the big courts.
They put the top drawing matches into the bigger spaces? Seems insane. No wonder Britain was kicked out of the EU. Or was that the other way around?
Here’s the thing about sexism or racism or other vexing social issues. Boiling them down into subtle innuendos and veiled accusations without evidence doesn’t really help. You’ve earned over thirty million in on-court tennis prize money alone and you’re not even the best tennis player in your family. If you have something stupid and completely unsupported to say, just say it. You’re stronger than anybody on the island. The entire world is your safe space.
