Gwyneth Paltrow is all about the perfect. The perfect lip moisturizer, the perfect vacation retreat in Morocco, the perfect marriage. Until her marriage ended when Gay Beethoven could no longer stand a woman endless commenting on his choice of salad greens and locking herself in the master bath with a weekend’s worth of the perfect trail mix. Paltrow spun the split as a “conscious uncoupling” that would become the perfect commitment to family by a divorced couple:
It was a difficult time in our lives. We didn’t know that the ‘conscious uncoupling’ phrase was going to inspire so much conversation. At the time people said, these people are crazy and it’s true, but over time now I hear people saying ‘thank you’ for showing there is another way.
Inspiring conversation is wonderful euphemism for people calling you a pretentious ass sore. You did not invent divorced people being nice to each other for the sake of their kids. Are people thanking you aloud or you’re just overhearing their feelings of gratitude as they pass? Your dad got oral cancer from holding back so many things he never told you as a child.
