Women’s rights sells. Sex also. You really have merge the two to ride the commercial wave. People who breathlessly await shitty packaged pop music videos collectively gasped in their Twitter feeds to the stunning yet supremely tired visuals in Lopez’ Ain’t Your Mama release. If gender equality means legitimizing lazy street slang, you have to feel a slight tug to start marching behind it.
In the video Lopez breaks the shackles of 50’s housewives and employs the voice of Hillary Clinton from her 1995 U.N. Address on women’s rights to really drive home her entirely unclear point. Do you have to be somebody’s mama? What if you said no to traditional subservience to male providers and made yourself a fortune off your tits and ass and fucked hunky gay male backup dancers half your age until your vagina exploded with fits of pineapple juice? Isn’t exploiting a cliche of women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen to sell records it’s own form of subjugation? Dare to dream, Jenny.
