The downside of being rich and powerful is you lose the right to bitch about being broke and disenfranchised. It is the most common rant in the world. The most successful women in Hollywood are on a mission to discuss the horrid plight of the female gender. It’s unclear if they still see themselves as victims, want to use their positions of power to help the victims, or just have some free time before their scheduled facials. Reese Witherspoon was honored at the Glamour Women of the Year awards and felt obligated to toss some obligatory feminist red meat to the magazine currently responsible for millions of anorexic women:
Ladies and gentlemen, I think we are in a cultural crisis in every field, in every industry. Women are underrepresented and underpaid in leadership positions. No wonder we don’t have the healthcare we deserve or paid family leave or public access to early childhood education. And that really worries me. How can we expect legislation with our rights and needs being preserved if we don’t have equal representation.
Witherspoon may be the first person to pull from Hillary Clinton campaign stump speeches for inspirational quotes. It’s unclear what any of this has to do with Glamour’s overriding mission to help women find the perfect tasteful but eye-catching skirt for the office holiday party. Sometimes it’s best not to question your facts or your motives or how Botox really is a bacterial neurotoxin that really is starting to make your frozen face look like a Pachinko wheel.
