Superheroes Need Wives

Walmart is drawing chagrin from the three socially conscious people who shop there because they are selling a girls shirt that says “Training To Be Batman’s Wife.” The gut reaction is who gives a shit, followed by muttering something about how this is not empowering to young girls. They should be training to become their own superhero, not some kind of homemaker to a superhero which for the record, sounds a ton easier. Maybe the parents who bought this sized up their kid and are just being honest. Not everyone can be a superhero or they would have nobody to rescue. Batman scales buildings and fights bio terror. Are you ready for that Kaitlin? Good, here’s a medium. DC Comics released a self affirming statement:

“DC Comics is home to many of the greatest male and female Super Heroes in the world. All our fans are incredibly important to us, and we understand that the messages on certain T-shirts are offensive. We agree. Our company is committed to empowering boys and girls, men and women, through our characters and stories. Accordingly, we are taking a look at our licensing and product design process to ensure that all our consumer products reflect our core values and philosophy.”

Whether you aspire to fight crime or fight grape juice stains, you have to admit the male superheroes are cooler. If there is an eminent threat to humanity, you could do a lot worse than being Batman’s wife. Namely prowling the city in fishnets with some lame gimmick when you could be home watching Community on Netflix.
