The follow up to Casino Royale (which takes up right where Casino ended, with Bond finishing his conversation with Mr. White) has been filming for a couple of weeks now under the simple and to-the-point title of "007", but today in London it was revealed that the name is actually "Quantum of Solace". Oh that’s right. Page Six explains:
Although the title may sound strange, it is actually steeped in spy lore. Quantum of Solace is the title of a short story in For Your Eyes Only, a 1960 collection of short stories written by Bond creator, Ian Fleming. Luckily, it seems that the plot of the short story — James attends a boring dinner party with a group of socialites he can’t stand and after making an offensive remark is told a story about the love affair between a former civil servant and a flight attendant — has been completely nixed from the film.
That really sounds like words were just chosen at random, whether they went together or not, and fuck it I’m going home. It could have been Quantum of Solace, or Black Sock of Unstoppable, or Pigtown of Passion. Well, okay, actually that last one sounds like it might be pretty good, and it makes at least as much sense as Quantum of Solace.
