Back in October, Isaiah Washington of "Greys Anatomy" had a fight on set with Patrick Dempsey because Washington reportedly referred to gay castmate TR Knight as a "faggot". He then again said "faggot "at the Golden Globes in January. The resulting backlash may still cost him his job, but part of his deal to save it for the time being was an agreement to do several PSA's, and the first one is now online. Isaiah says:
"Words have power. The power to express love, happiness and joy. They also have the power to heal. When you use words to demean a person because of their sexual orientation, race or gender, you send a message of hate – a very powerful message. But we all have the power to demand better of one another, and ourselves. We have the power to heal and change the world with the words we use."
This seem a little patronizing to anyone else? From what I can tell he's dong a commercial where he tells me not to use homophobic language based on his history of using homophobic language. If he wants to change anyone's opinion about him, one good step would be to change his name. "Isaiah Washington" is the hardest name I've ever heard. Some names define a personality and "Isaiah Washington" is definitely the name of a dude who says "fag" a lot.
