If you, like Media Takeout, clicked on the CBS radio page titled "Diversity" yesterday afternoon after CBS fired radio host Don Imus for calling the Rutgers basketball players "nappy headed ho's", you would have seen why they were so outraged at his culturally insensitive comments. Just look at the page that celebrates the diversity at CBS – why, there's a white man in a jacket, and then there's a white man looking downward, and one of the white men has a tie on, while another white man has no tie at all. He may not even own a tie for all we know! It's a rainbow, it is! But awesome gets awesomer, since CBS quickly redesigned the page and added a picture of a white woman and singer Brian McKnight. It's not clear who the woman is, but Brian McKnight does not work for CBS. Presumably CBS just ran a GIS on "black man" and "woman" and that's what turned up. So it could have just as easily been George Washington Carver and Betty Rubble. I asked Oliver Stone what they should have put up and he suggested this. Because, as the New York Daily News points out, Oliver Stone is a racist:
Screenwriter Barry Michael Cooper says Stone whipped the racist epithet on him at an L.A. party shortly after Cooper's movie "New Jack City" came out in 1991. "Oliver Stone's my hero, so I went over to him," Cooper recalls in StopSmiling magazine. "[I said,] 'Man, I love your movie 'Wall Street.' … He said to me, 'Okay, thank you very much. I bet you like [the Stone-scripted] 'Scarface,' too. All n—s like 'Scarface.' "[Stone] stumbled off. Right before I could go after him and commit career suicide, [director] Stan [Lathan] and [hip-hop mogul] Russell [Simmons] pulled on my arm and said, 'No you don't. Let it go. That's just him, he's high.'?"
Maybe Stone only said what he said because he was high, but consider this: Stone is an asshole.
