Gwyneth Paltrow tells People magazine that she did not say the Anti-American quotes attributed to her in the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias. Paltrow admits she did say that Europe was an older culture and doesn't obsess over work the way Americans do, but anything more than that was due to confusion because she was conducting the interview in Spanish, which is not her first language. Paltrow says:
I felt so upset to be completely misconstrued and I never, ever would have said that. I definitely did not say that I think the British are more intelligent and civilized than Americans.
Here's the quote in the Portuguese paper Paltrow now denies:
"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner. I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilized than the Americans."
Keep in mind the "I never, ever would have said that" part as you read what she told the UK paper the Guardian in January:
"I love the English way, which is not as capitalistic as it is in America. People don't talk about work and money; they talk about interesting things at dinner parties. I like living here because I don't tap into the bad side of American psychology."
Then in February she said:
"I love living in the UK! Brits are far more intelligent and civilized than Americans.”
I may be dumb, but I'm smart enough to know how to run a search on Gwyneth Paltrow quotes. I've also won several trophies for my charming personality and I was state champion in pushups, but I guess I'm uncivilized just because I've had sex with bunny slippers on two separate occasions. Well la-di-da your majesty!
