‘Superman Returns’ is expected to be the most expensive movie ever made by the time it’s released on June 30th, with costs by then reaching $300 million. Warner Brothers, the studio producing the film, claims the budget to actually be $204 million, but industry experts say that roughly $255 million has already been spent, making it much more expensive than the $207 million spent last year on ‘King Kong’ and the $200 million spent on ‘Titanic’ and ‘Spider-Man 2’. An insider says:
“From what I gather it will be the most expensive film ever. There’s no way it could cost less than $250m based on what they green lit. It was $200m with first director McG before Bryan Singer took over. When Bryan took over they had to re-shoot. I figure it’s anywhere between $290m and $300m at this time.”
Yikes. It costs more than I would have thought to hire a boring director and a writing team whose previous credit was a direct-to-video horror sequel that no one was waiting for. So this thing will have to make 600 million if Warner Bros. is gonna see a dime (keep in mind, the studio only gets half the profits, the theater gets the other half). But based on the pictures below, all that money is gonna be up there on the screen. It will be exciting and a touching date movie, as long as you’re a guy on a date with another guy.
