Despite a production and advertising budget rumored to be around 140 million dollars, ‘Basic Instinct 2’ opened to unthinkably bad numbers this weekend, coming in at number 9 and earning just 3.2 million dollars. Other new releases ‘Ice Age 2’ and ‘ATL’ earned 70.5 and 12.5 million respectively. ‘The Inside Man’ was number 2 at the box office, clearing 16 million in its second weekend to now total 52.7. ‘Instinct’ brought in just 1.15 million on Friday, 1.3 million on Saturday and 700,000 dollars on Sunday. ‘Ice Age 2’ made 22, 28 and 20 million on those same days. ‘Instinct’ even lost to ‘Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector’ in its second week of release on Saturday by 150,000 dollars. Although that’s nothing to be ashamed of, since Larry has a little something we in the industry can only define as “IT!” His nickname is “the Cash Register”. Man, what a talent!
