MSNBC reports that Heath Ledger seems bemused that two theaters in Utah have “banned” ‘Brokeback Mountain’. He called the move ‘immature’ and ‘hilarious’ after learning that two theaters in the heavily Mormon state refused to show his movie because of its subject matter.
“Personally, I don’t think the movie is [controversial] but I think maybe the Mormons in Utah do. I think it’s hilarious and very immature of a society. I heard a while ago that West Virginia was going to ban it but that’s a state that was lynching people only 25 years ago so that’s to be expected.”
You really need to be careful when you try that “25 years ago” thing, cause it’s only gonna sound damning if you’re talking to a 14 year old with a frowny face sticker on his history test. Everyone else is gonna be pretty sure that West Virginia had outlawed lynching by 1981. And, for the record, your crappy movie wasn’t “banned”, ya little drama queen. The state doesn’t have storm-troopers with panthers on a leash at the doors, just waiting for someone to buy a forbidden cowboy movie ticket.
