The Hollywood Reporter says today that Wilmer Valderrama will fill the boots of Erik Esrada and star as Francis “Ponch” Poncherello in the Warner Bros. big-screen version of CHiPs. The show was a popular one hour action/drama on NBC in the late 1970s and followed the adventures of California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers Poncherello and Jon Baker.
I swear to god Hollywood gets dumber by the minute. CHiP’s was so damn dumb it shouldn’t have been a TV show, much less a movie. It’s about the Highway Patrol. Those scumbags do nothing but write 300 dollar tickets to website writers who didn’t signal. They’re not exactly repelling down glass skyscrapers with an HK in each hand. Whenever there’s a shootout in an abandoned warehouse, and one of the badguys runs out of ammo, and he yells, “I need bullets”, and then a supercop runs up and says, “you can have some of mine, punk” and then shoots him 30 times – rest assured, that’s not CHP. Call me crazy, but I don’t think two hours of Fez poured into a cop uniform and writing tickets for illegal window tint is gonna be the money making extravaganza Warner’s had in mind.
