Claire Danes is reasonable

Claire Danes tells the Sun UK this morning that she struggled to act in a sex scene with co-star Steve Martin in their new film Shopgirl. The 24 year old Danes admits being nervous about the scene with the 60 year old Martin, until realizing that the anxiety she felt personally is exactly what her character would feel.

“The age difference seemed a little awkward, but the movie is about that. I didn’t want to be coy about their relationship. It ultimately evolved into something more complex, but initially he wanted to have sex with her, and she wanted to have sex with him.”

I want to see old people make out slightly less than I want to see fat people make out, but that’s mostly cause I never even pictured it until now. Now I don’t know what to think. I guess I’m pretty impressed. Not by Danes but by Martin. The guy really honestly is a creative genius, now I realize he’s a diabolical genius too. Writing books and movies where he conveniently has sex with Claire Danes. When my grandfather was 60, he wasn’t nearly that cool. Or lucid. He was an old mariner, and he would tell me things like, “The anus is an unforgiving mistress”.


I think he was a little confused. I hope he was.
