Divorce Seems Easier When Super Rich

Jennifer Garner finally pulled the trigger on divorce papers with Ben Affleck. She’s been dangling the documents for a couple years now, during the course of their separation. Because the two continue to spend regular time together with their between two and eight children, rumors continued to swirl that Garner wasn’t filing the final divorce because a reconciliation might be in the works. We now learn merely that she’s a devout Christian who held off while Affleck completed various secret rehabs for his addictions to anything you can think of bad for a marriage. 

The pair are officially no longer married. Affleck has moved out of the Brentwood family compound where he’d been staying in a separate house from Garner, and simply bought another mansion down at the end of the block to be near the kids. That’s not like any of the divorce fallout stories I remember from childhood. Where’s the crappy divorcee apartment with no cable? Pulling your kids from their friends and school? The crazy weekend shuffles and summer weeks with the other custodial parent? These kids probably won’t even know the allure of early drug use and low self-esteem sex. Do they even blame themselves for their parents divorce? None of this seems appropriate.

Having a luxury villa separate from your ex and a couple blocks from your kids doesn’t seem like the worst thing ever. In fact, it’s the best thing ever. It’s how every man would choose to do fatherhood if it was even close to possible. Score one for Affleck. Minus one for Garner for starting to approximate Caitlyn Jenner in appearance.
